I totally agree with you. It does seem as though the world is a less kind place today. Now, we can't know what that young guy all by himself in the booth was feeling or going through at that moment. Perhaps he's actually a nice guy, but very shy. Perhaps he's was just having a bad day and needed time by himself to think or not to think. One thing is clear, though: He didn't have to answer so rudely to the elderly man. Even if he were having a bad day, he didn't have to take it out on a stranger who was just trying to be friendly or who was just didn't want to be lonely or who just wanted a place to sit down to eat in a crowded pizza parlor. So, does this mean I can join you and your friend at Shakey's next time I stop in and find all the other tables occupied? I'd love to try those mojo potatoes.
My favorite pizza is one I get everyone now and then with a few friends at a--would you believe--Greek restaurant in a little New England town. It's called the "European"--don't ask me why--and it has potatoes, spinach, and artichokes on tomato sauce with Parmesan cheese, and we like to ask for extra garlic. We get it on Tuesday's when the restaurant charges only half price, plus a dollar. It sounds weird, but it's hearty and delicious. You're not going to find that at Shakey's or Round Table, are you?
Garlic's good for you and can help ward off colds. The Garlic-Eaters (John, Sara, and I) can sit on one side of the table, and you can sit with Sarah, who doesn't like garlic either. ( I always want to order a side of onion rings, but the others won't let me.) See? If you were to see us and ask if you could join us, we wouldn't turn you away like that guy in Le Cram's post.
